Digital Animation
We are currently doing Digital animation using flash. I find this topic very interesting but also difficult. We started by learning the basics. We learned that for what we are doing we always modify the document to 720 by 480 px. We learned how to apply motion to symbols. We started by applying motion to a bouncing ball.

layout and design project
for this project i used a pen as my object. I began by scanning in the pen and doing bit map tracing. after the bit map tracing i changed many of the colors in the pen and made it almost rainbow with a huge assortment of colors. The idea then occurred to me to make the pen write in color instead of the black ink that it actually writes in. With that idea, i took the liberty of changing the name of the pen to color lady instead of cristal lady. I made the catch phrase "whats your color?". I also used the texture of the pen to fill in the word BIC. I took the advertising aspect of the assignment very literally and put the BIC logo on the bottom of the page and said the name of the pen "BIC color lady" once again and put another catch phrase-"the pen that writes in as many colors as you desire. I also put in a fading gray to black background which faded in the corners. If i could go back i would take away what i put at the bottom and space out the items on the page more. I liked many of the other projects a lot and wish that I could have seen other examples before starting my work.

portrait project
for this project i used squares and the color pink. I used a picture of myself. I liked this project a lot and for the most part got a hang of it quickly. The only part i had issues with was my hair because one piece went across my face and it was hard to disrupt the pattern in order to get that piece to start. one side of my hair ended up looking like an unorganized bundle of squares. Overall, I think i got the flow of my hair pretty well. For the second part of the project originally i was going to do the same picture and just use color but instead i decided to take the portion of the first picture with the sunglasses and use that. Originally i was going to put 4 panels of the sunglasses and make an "M" across them, but when i did this it looked sloppy. Instead, I took 6 panels of the sunglasses (because 6 is my lucky number) and changed the color of each of them. I was going to make every sunglasses a different color scheme but then when i went to go change the orange pair of glasses, the blue outline looked good with it so i ended up doing a row of blue frames with different lenses, the center with different color frames and patterned lenses, and adding a new row again with blue frames and different color lenses which reflected the lense colors in the first row in a darker hue. I think that this came out cool. When i went to mount the first image the spray glue came out really bad which im upset about.

Project 2- image gallery
For this project i took my photo (of just my eyes) and started out by cropping the image so that all you could see was one eye. Then I changed the contrast of the photo since mine came out very dark. I then changed the color of my eye and made it more green. i used the marquee tool and selected the iris of my eye and made it more green then selected the pupil and made it black and then selected the white area and made it more white. I put a mosaic filter over the image and then batched it. Since i cropped the photo many of my pictures cropped out the people. The eye was in every photo. It didnt work for all of the photos, but i wanted to use the batch process. Since it didnt work for all of the photos, i made a collage of the photos which i think came out good. During crit i liked all of the image gallery's. most of them made me wish that i left more of the peoples faces in them and cropped differently and worked on each individual photo more. i thought initially that we had to do a batch but not many people did.

apples project- complete
What i ended up doing for the apples project was for the first panel scanning in both a green and red apple. I used the green apple as the base apple and then cropped parts of the red apple and pasted them on top of the green apple. I altered the color of the green apple on a separate file and turned it more yellow. I then cropped areas of the newly yellow apple and also pasted them on the green apple. I used the smudge tool to blend the red and yellow areas into the green apple. This panel was meant to represent color. In the next pannel i cut an apple in half and carved the nyc skyline into it and scanned it. origianlly i had just the apple but then i decided to add an "I" in text and then from the red apple carved out a heart. Therefore, the panel read "I love NY". This panel was meant to represent culture. For the third panel I scanned the bottom of both red and green apples and cropped them so they looked like flowers. I then arranged them in a certain pattern. I then bit around the core of an apple and scanned that. I placed the apple core at the bottom of the panel to be the flower pot and then i drew lines from the flowers to the core to be the stems. This was supposed to represent shape. For the last panel i took the other half of the green apple and carved the word sin into it. I then drew a tree that said "forbidden" on it. This panel was supposed to represent the history of adam and eve and the sinful apple growing from the forbidden tree. In class we did critiques of everyone's work. My favorite was the guava because of the use of color and how abstract it was. I took a very literal approach and i thought it was interesting to see a more abstract approach. Also i liked seeing the other project on apples because she also took a more abstract approach and i thought it was interesting to compare our approaches especially because we did some of the same categories.

project 1- digital painting
So for this project the fruit I finally decided on is an apple. The reason I chose an apple is because 1. it is one of my favorite fruits and 2. it is one of the only fruits that comes in different colors. so when i started brainstorming ideas for this fruit the categories I decided on were color/culture and shape/history. I chose these categories mainly because I wanted to work with culture and history. When culture comes to mind regarding the apple the first thing i thought of was apple computers/ipods. I thought that this could be something fun to work with. Then after thinking a little more about it I thought about "the big apple". I think that this idea could be fun to work with. My ideas lead me to apple buildings and sky scrapers etc. As well, I thought of sleeping beauty where she bites into the apple. Then with history the first thing I thought of was adam and eve. I thought that this could be an interesting idea to work with. The categories of color and shape are giving me a little trouble. My ideas for color is to integrate yellow green and red in some way (since those are the three colors apples come in). As for shape, i was thinking of doing something with the bottom of an apple since it looks somewhat like a star or cutting an apple in half where it looks like an infinity symbol.
As for my process, I am a photography minor, so I plan on taking my own photos and integrating them into my project.
